About Emma Treby

I am passionate about helping you develop the understanding and tools to boost confidence and control. I can help you learn to cope better with anxiety and stress, strengthen your self-esteem and self-belief, or to become ‘unstuck’. I’ll support you to feel better connected with yourself, your life and your passions.

As someone who lived with extreme anxiety to the point of burnout, I specialise in supporting people with anxiety. I’ll enable you to break the vicious cycle of worry, indecision, self-doubt and procrastination. You will be able to live a calmer and more meaningful life.

Being a highly sensitive person and the parent of a spirited child, I have used my background in research to understand how I can work with sensitive people to be the best version of themselves. I also support parents of highly sensitive and spirited children so they can build resilience and thrive.

My Experience

My professional background is diverse but has always centred on how people think, feel and behave. After a career as a university lecturer and a researcher, I retrained as a clinical hypnotherapist and psychotherapist.

I have taken my skills and a desire to help people who are not where they want to be, and shaped them into my work. I love working with people on a 1:1 basis and in a training environment, sharing my knowledge and empowering people to take control of their own mental health.

Over the last few years, I have been part of a team researching the effectiveness of solution focused hypnotherapy within the police. We have published a paper which demonstrates hypnotherapy’s effectiveness in this field. We use this work for bespoke training with the Devon and Cornwall Police teams.

Alongside this, I also provide training for small organisations, as well as larger corporations. My corporate training helps companies ensure compliance and enables them to better manage their employees’ mental health.

Response from the owner: Thank you so much for this Jennie. It was such a pleasure to work with you. It is fantastic that your life is so much better now! Very best wishes in all that you do, Emma
Highly recommend a session of meetings with Emma if your stress bucket is full & you are struggling to cope. Asking for help is nothing to be ashamed of! Emma puts you at ease & helps you to understand how your brain works & how we need to look after ourselves to look after others. Even as someone with lots of experience within the mental health field, following a family bereavement I realised I needed help to get my life back on track - Emma has definitely helped with this. The free initial session will also help to see if this type of counselling is for you
Response from the owner: Thank you so much Jo. It was a pleasure to work with you. Like you say, it is so important to get the support you need in order that you can be there for others. A few sessions can make a big difference can't they 🙂
I arrived at Emma's wondering whether my emotions and sleep could really be sorted out in this way. Straight away I was put at ease and assured this could be achieved. From the first session I could see progress and after completing 6 weeks I am now in control of my emotions and sleep is something I no longer need to worry about. Thank you Emma - you have been amazing and I know I have the confidence now to keep myself on track. This is a therapy I would recommend for anybody to try. Sue, Devon
Response from the owner: Thank you so much. It was a pleasure to work with you, great that you now have control of your emotions, your sleep issues are no longer and fantastic that you have that confidence to stay on track!
Emma was so welcoming and easy to talk to. She put me at ease as soon as we met. She put the science first to help me understand how the brain works and how hypnotherapy could help me. I had struggled a lot with my sleep patterns and anxiety levels. It was a real turning point for me. It was well worth the investment, I function so much better now, understanding why I feel the way I do sometimes, enabling me to deal with the stresses that pop up as I go through my day to day life.
Before seeing Emma I was suffering with anxiety and depression, struggling to get motivated to do anything and struggling to get through the working week without wanting to throw things at my colleagues! I was recommended Emma by a close friend who knew of someone who had used a hypnotherapist. My sessions with Emma were great, really laid back, very informative and interesting.I gained a lot from finding out the scientific causes for what I was struggling with and using this information to aid my recovery. Once I knew the things that could help me and techniques I could use I found it a smooth process to help myself. If you’re thinking of using hypnotherapy go for it! It is not nonsense it is based on science and it is great and so effective!
"Before I started my hypnotherapy sessions with Emma my life was being controlled by negative thoughts and self doubt. This impacted immensely on my confidence, happiness and sleep and I honestly didn’t think there was a way out from feeling like this. A friend had told me about hypnotherapy so I did some research and found Emma. Her reviews were amazing so I decided to get in contact.I found the experience of working with Emma incredibly beneficial. She explained to me in depth on how the brain works and why I was feeling the way I was. I found it very interesting and it was nice to know that I wasn’t the only one who had these negative thoughts. Emma provided me with tools to use outside our sessions which I was able to put into practice in certain situations. During the trance work in our sessions Emma really helped me to relax a lot more than I thought I would.Since working with Emma I am no longer being controlled by negative thoughts. For the first time in years I sleep through the whole night without waking up worrying about something. My self confidence has grown so much and my family have noticed a real difference in me. I have made lots of positives changes in my life that the old me would have been too afraid to do, and because I now know how my brain works and how to cope in situations that would have been difficult for me, I know that I am going to be able to continue to move forward in my life.I think anyone who’s thinking about using hypnotherapy should 100% give it a go. Not only do you learn techniques on how to cope with situations and feelings that you may find difficult, but you also learn how your brain works and why you think/feel the way you do. I couldn’t recommend any other type of therapy more!"

More About Me

My first career was in academia where I researched and lectured in environmental and health geography. I loved working with the students on a 1:1 basis as well as teaching and undertaking research in the UK and abroad, including Portugal and South Africa.

After moving to Devon 19 years ago, and inspired by my mum’s diagnosis, I worked for a disability charity, eventually heading up their research and development. As I was promoted through the ranks, I had also become a mum to a young daughter. I was working part time but not really doing a part time job. Anxiety crept up on me like stealth. For a few years, I continued with what we would now know as high-functioning anxiety until I experienced burnout. If only I had known then what I know now.

After a short career break, I decided to retrain as a clinical hypnotherapist and psychotherapist. I wanted to work with people who wanted more out of life. It was the best decision I could have made. If you want to stop feeling stuck or just need a little support to take back control, then get in touch today.
